Finding the correct tool is so essential. It’s the very beginning of you finding the right routine.
Beneficial to your growth journey because… length retention lies within you paying attention to your hair needs and answering those needs in a timely manner.
Sometimes you need more than one tool, depending on your desired results.
Fingers are gentle and thorough enough if you are just getting started out and have nothing else. Allows you to get intimate with your Natural Hair.
Black Owned. Detangles with minimal shedding. Takes time and aren’t as thorough as other Natural Hair tools.
Detangling Brushes – Reach higher up the hair shaft and covers more area on the head/scalp. The pros are they speed up the detangling process and there are multiple brands to choose from. A detangling brush also gives great definition to some curl/coil patterns (when paired with the right product for the right Natural). Some cons are that they could cause more breakage for some Naturals on wash day, they aren’t as gentle.
Detangling Combs – also known as a Shower comb to some help get closer to the scalp area. Some brand of combs reach where a detangling brush cannot, making some detangling combs more thorough. Please keep in mind when I am using a comb, it’s on soaking wet hair or at least hair I already know is thoroughly detangled.
*Note* Some brands might have whether a comb is for longer or shorter hair, pay attention to these, I’ve experienced this and it wasn’t good for my hair.
Most of these tools can be found in most department stores such as Walmart and Target and Smaller drug stores as well such as CVS and Walgreens. Some Beauty Supply stores such as Sallys and your local beauty supply stores should also carry some, these won’t be your name brands Natural Hair Tools but they are dependable and will get the job down until you your technique and routine down.
