5 Tips for the Mama Who’s Mind is Always Running

As a Mom, especially a new Mom, there might come a time where you wont be able to find peace; no matter what you do. You won’t be able to focus on anything and you won’t be able to sit still. Even if you manage to sit still your brain will still be on go. So I made a list of things that help me clear my mind and focus a bit.

Get outside and get moving

Take the kids outside to play or take them along with you on a walk. While you’re out you’re giving yourself and your brain time to slow down and focus on one thing. You are taking a mental break. If your mind is going nonstop, trust me it’s necessary.

Taking the kids outside to play

For me, taking the kids out to play is time for me to stop everything else and just enjoy them. Even if I don’t feel like playing along with them, I pull out my camera and those are some of the best pictures I get to capture because when are kids the happiest…? When they’re running around destroying things and having fun of course.

Cleaning around the house

As a child I hated the day it was my turn to have to wash the dishes. Today as an adult, however, It is the most peaceful thing. We have a dishwasher but whenever I need to clear my mind, I’ll hand wash everything while listening to music and my head is always clear by the time I’m finished. The dishes and kitchen being clean is just a bonus. But it’s just something about the smell of bleach and seeing the dishes actually becoming clean. It’s soothing.

Working out or doing yoga

Whether you are working out at home, in a gym, have goals or just for fun. It’s a great way to relieve stress and to clear you head. Even if you haven’t worked-out in an entire year, If you go for a jog or do some pushups and sit-ups, you’re going to feel good afterwards because you did it; you’re proud of yourself and for 15 to 20 minutes you were distracted.

Going for a run

I can 100% vouch for this one because If you’re anything like me, you despise running anywhere past a quick sprint here or there. But for the purposes of this blog post, it’s perfect for clearing your head. You aren’t thinking about the 1001 things on your to-do list or what’s for dinner. You’re just focusing on trying to keep your breathing steady. Eventually you’re praying and then you’re just thanking the good lord you made it without passing out. Looking past all of that, it’s almost like you are literally running away from the things/thoughts that were stressing you out.

Whether you use any or all of these tips. Remember they won’t work if you don’t acknowledge when you are feeling overwhelmed. Trust me, I completely understand that sometimes the struggle sneaks up on us, but that’s why it’s important for us Women to remember that it’s okay for us to have down time as well as self care days. The same way we pour out love & energy to everyone else, we need that same energy for ourselves in order to keep going.
